Nam Dinh is situated in the center of the Southern Red River Delta, within the growth triangle of Hanoi, Hai Phong, Quang Ninh, and the Northern Bay Economic Belt. Nam Dinh has a modern, integrated transport system that strategically connects to Hanoi, major economic centers, and neighbouring provinces. This reduces travel time and distance to airports and seaports:

  • Nam Dinh is 130 km from Noi Bai International Airport, with a travel time of approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes.
  • Nam Dinh is 100 km from Hai Phong Port, with a travel time of over 1 hour.

 

1. Population and Area:

  • Nam Dinh has nine districts and one city directly under the province.
  • Total area: 1,668 km²
  • Population: 1.85 million people
  • Population density: 1,110 people/km²

 

2. Young, Abundant, and Skilled Workforce:

  • The workforce is young and plentiful, with approximately 1 million working-age people accounting for 60% of the total population. A significant portion of this labour force is skilled and highly educated.
  • Nam Dinh people are intelligent, diligent, creative, and adept.
  • The province has been a leader in education for many years, with four universities, seven colleges, and numerous vocational schools, training thousands of engineers and skilled workers annually to meet the demands of investors.

 

II. Comprehensive Services and Infrastructure:

 

1. Transport:

The transportation network, including roads, railways, waterways, and ports, is well-invested and seamless, reducing geographical distances between Nam Dinh and other provinces and international locations. This infrastructure drives the province’s economic and social development:

  • Road network: Key roads are upgraded and connected to the national transportation system, such as the Ninh Binh - Nam Dinh - Thai Binh - Hai Phong - Quang Ninh expressway, the Nam Dinh - Phu Ly road, and national highways like 21, 10, 38B, and 37B. Future infrastructure plans include important routes to promote economic development, such as the North-South Expressway and the Ninh Binh - Hai Phong - Quang Ninh Expressway.
  • Railway: The national railway system runs 42 km through the province with six stations, facilitating passenger and cargo transport.
  • Waterway: The province is traversed by four major rivers, including the Red River, Da River, Day River, and Ninh Co River, creating an extensive water transport network. The province also has a 72 km coastline, with the Thinh Long Port capable of handling 300,000 tons of cargo annually, with plans to expand to 4.5 million tons annually.

 

2. Industrial Zones and Infrastructure:

By 2020, the province plans nine industrial zones with a total area of 2,003 ha, including four industrial zones currently under development. These areas offer modern infrastructure such as transportation, green spaces, clean water, wastewater treatment, and employee housing.

The province also calls for investment in additional infrastructure for new industrial zones, such as the 195 ha My Tuan and 198 ha Hong Tien zones.

 

3. Industrial Clusters:

There are 56 industrial clusters under development, covering 1,588 ha. Ongoing infrastructure projects include clusters in Thinh Lam, Yen Duong, and Yen Ninh (Yen District) and other areas like My Thanh, My Tan (My Loc), and Thanh Co (Vu Ban).

 

4. Traditional Villages:

The province has over 100 craft villages, with 18 famous traditional villages recognized for their long histories, beautiful landscapes, and exquisite products such as La Xuyen woodwork, Cat Dang lacquer, Tong Xa bronze casting, Vinh Hao bamboo weaving, and more.

 

5. Utilities and Services:

The province’s electricity, water, telecommunications, and waste management systems are well-established, covering industrial zones, industrial clusters, and project boundaries. Additionally, services such as banks, insurance, healthcare, hotels, restaurants, and entertainment meet the needs of investors.
